Modelop 030 - Registering a Move in Spain

Have you moved to Spain, from Spain, or within Spain?

If so, you must notify the Spanish Tax Agency, Agencia Tributaria, of your change of address.

If you have moved to Spain or within Spain, you should also register as a resident with your local municipality. This is called “Empadronamiento”, and the procedures vary slightly between municipalities.

When you register with the municipality, you may often be entitled to benefits such as discounts on municipal taxes, library cards, and municipal sports facilities.

Please note that it is not advisable to register with the municipality if you do not live in Spain or in that municipality on a permanent basis. Registration may be used by the national tax agency as evidence that you should pay income tax in Spain.

To register with the municipality, it is best to visit your local town hall to ask about the procedure in your specific municipality. In many cases, you will need to bring your passport, NIE document, and some form of proof that you live in the municipality or own a property there, such as a Nota Simple, Escritura from the purchase of a property, or a rental agreement.

In addition to registering with the municipality, you must also notify the national tax agency, Agencia Tributaria. This is done using a form called “Modelo 030”, which we are happy to help you with.
