Beckham Law Requirements

Questions and answers

What is the Beckham Law?

The Beckham Law (Special Expat Regime) allows foreign professionals relocating to Spain to be taxed as non-residents, paying a flat 24% on Spanish income up to €600,000 and excluding worldwide income from Spanish taxation.

Who can apply for the Beckham Law?

You must not have been a Spanish tax resident in the last five years, and you must move to Spain for work as an employee or company director. The application must be submitted within six months of registering with Spanish Social Security.

Does Taxadora help with the Beckham Law application?

We don’t handle the initial application process, but we specialize in annual tax filings (Modelo 151) for individuals already under the regime — ensuring accuracy and compliance every year.

Do I still need to declare foreign assets (Modelo 720)?

In most cases: No.

Because you are treated as a non-resident for tax purposes, you normally avoid the foreign asset reporting obligations. We confirm this case by case.

Do I need to file Wealth Tax (Impuesto de Patrimonio)?

Usually no, because Beckham taxpayers are exempt from Spanish Wealth Tax on worldwide assets.
However:

  • You may need to file Wealth Tax if you own Spanish property or assets beyond regional thresholds.

  • If your net assets exceed €3 million, we also check the Impuesto de Grandes Fortunas.

Can I file without expert help?

In theory yes, but the Beckham regime has unique rules (imputed income, double taxation, Spanish-source income separation, director limitations, etc.).
Professional review avoids costly mistakes and keeps your eligibility intact.

What if I leave Spain — when do I stop filing?

You stop filing Modelo 151 the year after you cease being a Spanish tax resident.
If you leave mid-year, special rules apply.
We guide you through the exit year to avoid double taxation.

How long does the Beckham Law last?

The regime applies for six tax years, starting from the year you become a Spanish tax resident under the Beckham framework.

Can freelancers apply for the Beckham Law?

Yes — following recent legislative changes, self-employed individuals may also qualify if they meet certain conditions. We can help verify eligibility and guide you on annual tax compliance.

What are the main benefits?

  • Flat 24% tax rate on Spanish-source income (up to €600,000)

  • Exemption from global wealth tax

  • Simplified filing with Modelo 151

  • Exclusion of worldwide income from Spanish taxation

How can Taxadora help me?

Our team prepares and files your Modelo 151 accurately, incorporating the latest legal changes. We provide personalized tax advice, ongoing support, and ensure your expat tax obligations are met without stress.

What documents do I need for Modelo 151?

We will request:

  • Annual employment income information

  • Spanish property details (if applicable)

  • Cadastral value for home imputed income

  • Details of any Spanish-source capital income

You upload everything online — step by step. If you have any trouble finding the information we will help you.

When is the deadline to file Modelo 151?

Modelo 151 is filed during the general Spanish tax campaign:
📅 April → June each year
Exact dates vary slightly depending on the AEAT calendar.

What happens if I file late?

We can help you submit a late return and reduce penalties where possible.
The sooner it’s handled, the smaller the surcharge. Our fees include help with letters from the tax agency regarding late filings.
